Holiday Season

I love Christmas. LOVE.IT!!

But man, working in retail during the holiday season, really sucks

I just am so tired and worn out, I just don't feel like I really have any energy to enjoy it. And even though we in retail are planning Christmas waaaayyyyyy in advance to the rest of the country, it still feels like it sneaks up on me!

I mean, it's 4 days away, and I feel like I've been missing out on all the fun

I don't know. I always tell myself at the end of the year, that NEXT year will be better! But somehow, I still end up worn out, and feeling like I missed out on what I wanted to enjoy. Plus, this company change over doesn't help. The new company is totally setting the stores up for failure

OK, thus endeth my holiday moaning!!!

I hope everyone out there is having a wonderful, happy, healthy, peaceful, prosperous, joyful holiday season!!!! The best to you all, and hopefully, I will catch up with everyone's LJ's in the new year! I'm only about 2 or so months behind

From Zap2it.com:

Will Barney and Robin’s break up stick? -Mari

Indeed. Be prepared for the Barnana to revert back to his old man-whore ways now that he and Robin have split. And since Robin is apparently the coolest chick in the world, there won’t really even be weirdness. The group dynamic will pretty much return to what it used to be.

Done.With.This.Show!

And again I ask: what the hell was even the POINT then?? Of all the talking about the writers and producers did for B&R? Of all the focus on Barney being in love with Robin last season? Of getting them together in the first place??

What was the point if:
They were going to break up in 7 episodes.
They were going to go back to the same group dynamics as before.
Barney didn't grow or mature from it.

WHAT THE HELL WAS THE POINT???

I'm just so frustrated with the whole thing.
From a TV Guide Magazine Article.

Holy Union! Barney and Robin are getting engaged! Co-creator Carter Bays tells TVGM exclusively, “It happens spontaneously. It’s a pretty snap decision, but it has consequences for them and for the rest of the group.” We’ll say. But it’s not like these two life-long commitment-phobes have been themselves lately. “We’re seeing what basically boils down to a new Barney and a new Robin. This is the culmination.” So who pops the question? “It’s not as simple as one of them proposing,” hints Bays. “Ted and Marshall are involved, and they’re there when it happens.” How bromantic. Bays promises Barney and Robin will return to their normal selves, but before that, “Everything they’ve feared about relationships changing them is going to fruition in a much bigger way than they could have imagined.”
I feel like screaming "YOU LIAR!" to this guy

I guess he decided to give in to the section of fandom that wanted "old" Barney back and Barney to not grow beyond the shallow womanizer that he is.

What I still don't get is, why write Barney/Robin in the first place, if he didn't want to do them, and if he wasn't going to do them any justice? Why build them up in spoilers leading up to this season? Why make a big deal out of them, if he was just going to pull some horrible crap in one half hour episode, that ends them for good?

That's what makes me mad. It's not that Barney/Robin broke up, it's how the show handled it all. How they led us to believe and invest, only for them to cop out in the end in a weasly, cowardly way. They shouldn't have done it and built it up, if they weren't going to actually invest in it or do it any justice.

Gah, I'm so livid. I despise being jerked around like this. Just a horrible horrible way to treat your viewers.

Well, they lost this one!

Sorry I'm so spammy with the posts tonight, but just saw TVG's report that "The Forgotten" had 5 additional episodes ordered for the season!

Whoo hoo!!!

So happy! I really have enjoyed this little gem of a show. No, it's not perfect, it has some flaws and some rough patches, but it almost always ends up moving me, and putting a tear in my eye. I love the twist of hearing the victim's POV throughout the episode, and getting their final thoughts about everything, and I love how these people fight for those who can't fight for themselves anymore, those who might get left behind.

I think it might be my favorite new show of the season, maybe even better than "NCIS: LA."

You know, sometimes it's really hard to say goodbye to a show that you have invested time and energy and thought into. (Yea, SPN, you're one of the shows I'm looking at!) Sometimes, it's frustration with the storyline, sometimes it's boredom, but usually for me, it's hard to really finally turn it off.

So it's always nice when a show(s) makes it easy for you!

As of now, "Legend of the Seeker" and "How I Met Your Mother" are officially crossed off my list.

I can deal with writers going in different directions, deciding that they don't want to focus on this character or that couple, but what I can't deal with is being jerked around as a viewer and a fan. Reading the spoilers for "Legend of the Seeker" just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. They've taken a formerly strong, powerful female character, and reduced her to nothing but a lovesick, jealous doormat. She's got no storyline other than being jealous of this guy's "free love" and the many new female characters being introduced, and when the man who supposedly loves her doesn't care about her feelings and tells he's going to trust who he wants and she just has to deal, well, I'd expect a better reaction than her just putting up with it and then being catty to the other woman. Kicking him in the nads and then taking a walk, is a much better reaction to me! But nope. She's now nothing but a stereotypical jealous woman, pining over the man who every other woman is in love with, and has nothing to do but watch from the sidelines as everyone else has a storyline.

Yea, no thanks. Bite me, writers.

Then, there's "How I Met Your Mother." Now, I've loved the idea of Barney and Robin as a couple since season 1, but I never really expected them to do it. But then they went there, and they spent an entire season of Barney being in love with Robin, had the season ender reveal she had feelings for him too, had them actually become a couple in the season opener, and had 6 episodes of them being a couple, only to suddenly reveal in tonight's episode that they're miserable, hate each other, and aren't having sex anymore. So they break up, and apparently firmly slam the door shut - and LOCK IT - on the idea of them ever being together again.

WTF?

Really, writers? If you had no interest in them being a couple or having a relationship, then WHY DID YOU GET THEM TOGETHER IN THE FIRST PLACE?? And if you were going to break them up, how about you have the unhappiness and misery, I don't know, SHOW UP ONSCREEN, instead of just suddenly having an episode, out of the blue, where they are miserable and unhappy? Jeez, at least when you broke up Marshall/Lily, and Ted/Robin, you went through the trouble of showing it onscreen. I guess Barney/Robin don't deserve anything but a handful of episodes being together, then an out-of-character episode where they reveal they hate each other as a couple and should never be anything but just friends.

No thanks, writers, I object highly to being jerked around. I don't know, I'm funny that way.

So, yea, these two shows? Made it COMPLETELY easy to scratch them off my list.

Just wish they wouldn't have pissed me off so bad in doing it

Well, I hope you enjoyed them, and your birthday!! Here's to another year for us both

I got birthday fic from the very amazing ficwriter1966 aka Carol! She wrote Dean and Lizzie, a very lovely and amazing piece called "A Trip To The Mall"! It's been something I have wanted to see for soooo long and have asked her for for soooo long and she finally took pity on me (or couldn't stand me asking anymore, LOL!) and wrote it! And its everything I could ask for

I just seriously love Dean and Lizzie together. They really are my OTP in this fandom. Every time I read them, they take me to a happy place and put a smile on my face. I know he's just a character, and not at all real, but I just love the idea of Dean getting his "happy ending." Of this tiny little girl seeing beneath the very beautiful male surface to the inner man and going, "yep, that's my daddy" and never veering from that course. Of someone seeing Dean's true worth and loving him with her whole heart and making him hers, and of him being able to accept the love and the acceptance of this innocent child in a way that he can't quite do with an adult, and maybe-hopefully, it actually sinking in to him via Lizzie's love that he is amazing and loveable and worth it. Because in his eyes, his little girl is awesome and perfect, and if she sees something in him, then there must be something in him worth seeing, right? I think for Dean, that might be the thing that would finally make a dent in his horrible sense of self-worth.

Plus, you know, there's just something melt-worthy about a tough, strong man, with his baby girl, you know?

So, go, read!

And thanks again, Carol, for the wonderfully moving birthday gift! I love every word of it

OK, I've tried. I gave this show 13 episodes. But seriously? These character are as dumb as dirt!

I keep watching it going, "how the hell are any of you still ALIVE?? You're all so damn stupid!!"

I actually found myself rooting for the bad guy, because, really, the good guys were too stupid to live. It wasn't until the bad guy hooked up with the new age chick from the Warehouse who was revealed to be bad that I started rooting against him. And that was only because I dislike her more than I like the good guys, LOL!

I mean, the show has cute parts. I really like some of the banter between Myka and Pete. But I just can no longer believe that these people are actually so smart as to be in charge of something like the Warehouse. They actually scare me more than the bad guys, and that's just because their incompetence is more of a danger to the world than the bad guy's evil intentions are!

Just...they're so dumb!!

OK, that is all. Sigh. Thoughts on "NCIS: LA" and "The Forgotten" in another post!

And "YAY" to that!!

First, "How I Met Your Mother." Oh, how happy was I with the Barney & Robin stuff? Very very happy! I loved it, well done, and it totally makes sense for these two characters! I love how they fool themselves into being boyfriend and girlfriend by thinking they are fooling Lily! And I love that Lily knew that. I just can't believe that spark of a couple I saw in Season 1 actually is becoming a couple for real! I thought it was one of those "never gonna happen" couples. Didn't put anything into them, even though I would watch and go, "I wish..." and here we are!

As Barney would say, "awesome!"

Second, "The Big Bang Theory." Awwww, Sheldon!!! Ok, Lenard, Raj, and Howard! Not nice! I know he can be a pain in the ass, and I am sure living with him in the Arctic for 3 months was a special kind of Hell, but you guys signed up for it! You knew what you were doing! And sabotaging a fellow physicists research like that is a HUGE "no-no." Especially someone like Sheldon who IS his work.

Badly done, boys, badly done!

They made Sheldon cry

But YAY to Penny for forcing Leonard to make it up to his friend! And how sweet of her to go over to Sheldon and try and comfort him! She sang to him, she tried to bond with him with a "Star Trek" metaphor. Just awesome stuff! I really do think Sheldon/Penny is my favorite relationship on the show. I don't know about them romantically (I have a hard time seeing Sheldon romantically interested in anyone), but I do love their chemistry and their interaction the best of all!

Thirdly, "Castle." Oh, how much did I love Beckett still being mad at Castle! Love it, and love it that her girlfriend was backing her up on it. Also love that we DID get to find out what Castle discovered in this episode! I was a little worried we wouldn't, since sometimes shows like to string this stuff along. I'm glad that Beckett got to lay it all out for Castle why he was upset, and I am so glad that Castle got it in the end, and sincerely apologized to her. Yay to Alexis for - once again - showing her father the path with her own maturity! Hee, I love Castle/Alexis together!

Great opener!

I wonder if they are going to explain why he is still riding with her even though he already wrote his book, though? Is he just going to keep riding with her for every book?

I know, I know, that's the premise of the show. But they made a big deal out of him riding along for a while so he could get some inspiration and insight for his first Nikki Heat book, and since he has and the book is out, I wonder why he is riding with her now, and if the show will ever address it...?

All in all, a good start to the "Official" (I say "official" since I actually have more than one show premiering this week!) start to the new fall season!

And now...on to Tuesday night's "NCIS: LA," the season ender of "Warehouse 13," and checking out "The Forgotten!" (I really hope they don't regret naming their show that...)
I saw a fall TV premiere show for each of the big networks (well, not CW), and here are my impressions!

Accidentally On Purpose: looks bad. Maybe it would be better if they had cast a better lead actor for the role. But he's just as bland as can be, and I don't at all see myself rooting for him and Jenna Elfman to get together. Wasn't much interested in it before, definitely won't try it now.

Trauma: not interested. Wasn't before, am not now.

Mercy: man, that one looks bad! Definitely not interested. This one looks even preachier than Hawthorne, but at least Jada has some presence on screen, even if I don't like it much, LOL. The lead actress of this show, not so much. Everyone looks bland.

V: still not sure on this one. Will give it a shot because of the subject matter, but not impressed so far.

The Forgotten: looks potentially interesting. My interest is now somewhat piqued having seen a preview clip of it. Will give it a shot.

NCIS: LA: still my favorite of the new crop! Definitely going to watch this one. Have been looking forward to it since the NCIS crossover eps aired!

The Good Wife: wasn't interested in it before, but the preview clip actually sparked some interest. Will give it a shot for at least one episode.

Hank: I like Kelsey Grammer, so will give it a shot, but not impressed so far.

The Middle: Oh man, this one looks horrible. No, thank you.

Modern Family: everyone keeps raving about this one. I will try it, but nothing about the previews sang to me.

Cougar Town: see above.

Eastwick: I was kind of iffy about this one, and seeing the preview didn't improve that. Will try and give it a shot, but not sure if I will actually go through with it.

Flashforward: was already interested, but the preview definitely ramped up my interest! Looking forward to this one, no pun intended!

Community: this actually looks potentially funny. One of the scenes in the clip actually made me laugh out loud. Will give it a shot.

The Vampire Diaries: I tried the first, but I didn't even get interested enough to sit there and actually watch it. Maybe it will improve. It's before Supernatural, but it's up against Bones and Flashforward, so it's going to have to be really good to beat out those two shows.

Brothers: looked dumb, despite CCH Pounder.

Three Rivers: Saw a preview of this already. Not a big fan of the subject matter, and the show looks like it could potentially overdose on earnest, but I will probably give the first episode a shot.

That's it!

Terminator Salvation Review

A friend asked my opinion and I typed up this long review for her and thought, "eh, why waste it? I'll post it on my LJ too!" LOL! I find it ironic how I am wordy about things I don't enjoy compared with how little I say about things I do enjoy. Like, except for a few irritating things about "Star Trek," I loved that movie. But no one asked me to email them a review, and I never got around to posting it on my LJ, so even though I loved it, I didn't say anything about it. But a friend asked me for a review about "Terminator" which I did NOT love so much, and I practically write a short essay.

Weird.

Anyways, here's my review, with many spoilers, so be warned! I do spoil in this one, cause I mention the plot holes that bug me, and they are some main ones. And I do spoil the ending. I don't spoil everything, but I do spoil the very ending, tho I give you a warning that I'm going to do so and some space to skip it.

I just don't want anyone to be spoiled if they don't want to be :)

Let me first off say that I loved the first two movies. LOVED THEM. The first was my fave, but the second one is excellent as well. Third one, not so much. It was missing something without Linda Hamilton there.

OK, so here are my beefs with the fourth movie.

First off, I do not get how everyone seems to know that John is destined to be the leader of the Resistance (He's not, BTW. He’s a commander, but not THE leader; there are people above him). I mean, how did this info get out? It makes no sense. It just seems weird that everyone knows he is "destined" to be the resistance leader and lead humanity to victory against Skynet. He's destined to lead them, but he's NOT leading them. It just seemed weird and didn't make any sense to me.

Secondly, I really, really did not understand why everyone seemed to know about Kyle and how Kyle is John's dad. I mean, I could understand John's wife, and maybe even a few of his close seconds. But everyone seemed to know! It was like this huge known fact. I kind of felt bad for Kyle at the end. He's there with everyone, and everyone knows he's going to go back in the past, get it on with Sarah, father John, and then die, and he's totally clueless. I just kind of hated how everyone knew about Kyle, because it made no sense to me that John wouldn't keep it a secret so he could better protect Kyle. Because as we see from my next quibble...

Skynet KNOWS about Kyle!!! Somehow, they know, and they have a kill list out with a group of people on it, and Kyle is #1 and John is #2 (as well as some others that they don't mention really). But what makes it even stupider is that Skynet DOES get their hands on Kyle, and they don't just kill him. They use him as bait. Now, this is the same entity that sent a Terminator back in time to kill Sarah before John is born, so they KNOW killing one of John's parents before he is conceived effectively kills John. But instead of just eliminating Kyle right away (thereby stopping him from going back in time and fathering John) they just USE HIM AS BAIT to try and get him AND John. But they ARE getting him and John if they kill Kyle; cause killing him now effectively kills John, period!

It was so completely illogical to me, it really was.

And then the last part, which is a huge spoiler so I will leave some space for you if you don’t want to know, was another real WTF for me.

.

.

.

.

.
SPOILER FOR THE ENDING!

OK, so basically John is mortally wounded at the end. His heart is irreparably damaged. And the part human/part machine Marcus offers his heart up as a replacement for John's. And they take it, and at the end you see John is OK. Now, COME ON!!! I've watched enough medical shows to know this is NOT freaking possible!!! Setting aside blood types, lack of equipment, lack of a sanitary environment in which to operate in, etc. let's just remember that heart donors are MAJOR candidates for all kinds of horrible things going wrong. They need to be kept in a sterile environment for days on end, they need to take anti-rejection meds, and they need to do soooo many things to make sure their bodies don't reject their new heart. And yet the movie is acting like this is the same thing as getting a really bad cut sewn up. Give me a break.

.

.

.

.

.

Over all, not a good movie. I am fine with some plot holes, but there were a few too many ridiculous ones for my comfort. The acting was fine, but nothing to write home about. No one was truly awful. My fave was Anton Yelchin as Kyle Reese, though I am a little biased as Kyle is my favorite character. But I did feel like he did really well with what little he had. Sam Worthington was fine, and the few times Christian Bale really emoted, he did well. I would have liked to see a bit more from him, emotionally, towards the people closest to him (his wife, listening to the tapes of his mom, and talking about his dad Kyle to his wife), but when he needed an outburst, he did well on those. I think the weakest of the actors was probably Moon Bloodgood as Blair. Eh, she just didn't impress me, and I didn't get why this character would be willing to throw away everything (and by everything, I mean humanity and the war) for this guy she had just met.

I feel the writing really let down all of the actors, and the characters. Way too many plot holes, and very little attention to the characters themselves. Marcus probably got the most development, possibly teenage Kyle as second, but even so, that's not saying much with Kyle. They could have done so much more with John as the leader of the resistance, and with Linda Hamilton's "cameo." There was so much more there to exploit, and the writers inability to do so really hurt the movie.

I guess the special effects were fine, but special effects in the Terminator franchise was always only half of the movie: the other half was the heart of the human characters, and the writing really failed them in this regard.

If you're into technology biting the hand that created it, and curious about what they do with the next step in the "Terminator" franchise, then see it, but lower your expectations.

Not a big Mark Valley fan. I like Jackie Earl Haley and Chi McBride though.

Here's a trailer for "V." http://scifiwire.com/2009/05/new-trailer-for-abcs-v-is.php I loved the original series, but not too impressed with the new version though. It kind of lacks some excitement. I don't get that rush of fear or anticipation or really anything with it. I'm kind of wondering if they shouldn't have just made a mini-series for it. Like maybe a 13 part mini-series. If they want to make it longer then the original (which was a four hour or six hour mini series, I can't remember which), fine, but I think making it as a series is just gonna be too long. It drags out. You don't have an ending, and it just gets tiring seeing them try and maintain the momentum of "when will they find out they are bad guys? Is it now? When will the world discover the truth? is it now? When will the good guys win? Is it now?" There's only so long before you go, "OK, ENOUGH ALREADY! They're freaking LIZARDS who want to EAT us and steal all of our water, all right?? ALL RIGHT? Jeez."

OK, speaking of "V" here are some clips from it, and from "Flash Forward:" http://scifiwire.com/2009/05/first-look-at-clips-for-a.php

I'm curious about the plot of "Flash Forward," I will be watching that one.

Here's a bit of info on the CW shows coming out: http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2009/05/first-impressions-the-cw-goes-to-camp.html

"Parental Discrection Advised" sounds interesting, although it kind of also sounds like the plot of a Lifetime movie! And I will try "The Vampire Diaries," if only cause I like that kind of show, but it doesn't thrill me.

Here's some info on CBS' shows: http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2009/05/first-impressions-cbs-does-what-cbs-does.html The link also has clips for some of the shows!

"Accidentally on Purpose" sounds like its potentially cute, but we'll see. Not really interested in "The Good Wife" but maybe it will look better as more clips come out. "Three Rivers" doesn't look bad, not sure about the storylines, but it does have a good cast, so I might try it out. The one I am definitely checking out and most interested in is the "NCIS: LA" show! I really liked the crossover with the original "NCIS" and as long as Chris O'Donnell is back, so am I.

Here are the ABC shows: http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2009/05/first-impressions-abc-has-a-lot-of-shows.html

"Cougars" could be funny. I wish my body was as good as CCA, LOL! Not sure about "Witches." I liked the movie fine, but eh, not sure about a series. I like Paul Gross and Rebecca Ramoijn. Gonna try "Flash Forward," as I said above. Not sure about "The Forgotten." They're amatuer detectives? Eh. I like Kelsey Grammer so I will try "Hank." Not sure about "Happy Town," it looks intriguing, but I need to see more.

Here's Fox's: http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2009/05/first-impressions-foxs-mixed-bag-of-new-shows.html

Nothing really interesting sounding in this round up to me.

And that's it for now! Hopefully more will come out about them soon!
